Different jobs
If you edit in Descript, you already have a transcript, and exporting an SRT for YouTube is a few clicks per video. The catch is the “per video”: export, open YouTube Studio, upload the file, pick the language, publish. Skip it once and that upload goes out with auto-captions.
CaptionMe removes that step. It hears about each new upload from YouTube, transcribes it with your title and description as spelling hints, and publishes the track under your name, or emails it to you to check first. It also covers videos you didn't edit in Descript.
When Descript is the better fit
- Burned-in captions. Animated captions drawn onto Shorts, Reels and TikToks are Descript's territory. CaptionMe makes caption tracks viewers can turn on and off; it doesn't burn text into the video.
- You need an editor anyway. Descript's plans pay for editing, recording and AI tools; captions come with them.
Plenty of creators use both: Descript to edit, CaptionMe to make sure every upload gets accurate captions on YouTube. See CaptionMe on a real video, or compare plans.
