Privacy policy
Last updated 15 October 2026
CaptionMe creates captions for videos on YouTube channels you connect. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how to remove it.
Information we collect
- Your Google account: your name, email address, profile picture and Google account ID, from Google sign-in.
- YouTube data: your channel's ID, name and picture, and your videos' IDs, titles, publish dates, lengths and thumbnails, so we can list them and caption new uploads.
- Audio of videos we caption: downloaded only for new uploads on channels you connect and for videos you choose to caption.
- Captions you create and edit, your style presets and settings.
- Billing status: your plan and subscription status. Card and UPI details are handled by our payment processor, Dodo Payments, and never reach us.
How we use Google user data
CaptionMe asks for permission to manage your YouTube account (the youtube.force-ssl scope). We use it only to:
- identify the channels you own and list their videos;
- upload caption tracks to your videos when you click "Publish to YouTube", or automatically if you turn on auto-publish for a channel.
We don't change your videos, comments or other channel content: the only things we add, update or remove are caption tracks that CaptionMe published. We don't use Google user data for advertising, and we never sell it.
CaptionMe's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
CaptionMe uses YouTube API Services. By using CaptionMe you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's handling of your data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
How long we keep it
- Audio and raw transcripts are deleted 24 hours after captioning finishes.
- Captions, video details and settings are kept until you delete them or your account.
- Google access tokens are encrypted at rest and deleted, and our access revoked with Google, when you delete your account.
Who processes data for us
- Google Cloud, which hosts CaptionMe and stores its data;
- Resend, which sends our emails (your captions and account notices);
- Dodo Payments, which processes payments.
They may only use the data to provide these services to us.
Cookies
We use one cookie to keep you signed in. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
Your choices
- Disconnect a channel on the Channels page to stop monitoring it.
- Delete your account under Settings. This deletes your videos, captions and settings and revokes our access to your Google account.
- You can also remove CaptionMe's access at any time from your Google account permissions.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and email you about significant changes.
